This past week-end had some of the most entertaining games of the season, and the AP got to see a least a little bit of REAL football, you know, where someone plays defense.
The two best games:
(1) ‘Bama ended up with more points than LSU even though their defense had the ball crammed down its throat. They can thank their cool-under-fire QB and some weird calls by the Mad Hatter. I suggest they hope there is no rematch this season.
(2) Notre Dame ended up with more points that woeful Pitt. They can thank Irish luck, a couple of phantom 4th down pass interference calls, and a 4th quarter melt-down by Pitt’s defense.
The worst game:
Oregon and USC posted a score that looked like the results of one of those insufferable Big Ten basketball tussles. You know, where Ohio State beats Iowa and of the 10 guys on the court only 3 exhibit any athletic ability. (I hate this stuff where the losing team scores 50+ points)
When the week-end was done the Ancient One had a 6-2 record, which leaves us at 54-23 for the season.
This week the AP will be high up in the Smoky Mountains until late in the day Saturday, so he may miss some critical viewing. Perhaps, he can “channel” the results by short-wiring the LSPM upon his return later in the day and still soak up the knowledge to be had. Because, of this we have already set all the processes into motion and have this week’s prognostications ready to launch a little early. To whit:
LSU – 36
MISSISSIPPI STATE – 17
SOUTH CAROLINA – 29
ARKANSAS – 15
OREGON STATE – 33 (best game of the week, some would call this an upset)
STANFORD – 28
UNC – 37
GA TECH – 24
ALABAMA – 37
TEXAS A&M – 24
NEBRASKA – 20
PENN STATE – 9
OKLAHOMA STATE – 145
WEST VIRGINIA – 65
And the third Upset Special of the season:
MISSOURI – 16
TENNESSEE – 9
As Hank Hill would say, “yep, that’s about it. I tell you what”.
See you folks next week.
