...DELIVERING PROFOUND PROGNOSTICATIONS THROUGHOUT THE CURRENT COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON.

Ap 2012

Final Post of 2012 Season

“For when the One Great Scorer comes to mark against your name, He writes – not that you won or lost – but how you played the game”.………..Grantland Rice

“For 350 years we have been taught that reading maketh a full man, conference a ready man, and writing an exact man. Football’s place is to add a patina of character, a deference to the rules, and a respect for authority”.………….Red Smith

As another season draws to an end quotes from the two greatest sportswriters of the past 100 years remind us of why we love sporting competition in general and this game, specifically. None other produces quite the pageantry, commands as much loyalty, and is as emotionally vested as football in the South. It has been a fun year, a real banquet wherein your humble AP finished with his ledger at 80-33. Now we are left with the bowl games as dessert.

Before we get to that dessert a bit of year-end business must be finalized with the announcement of our annual award winners. The nominations continue to be more prolific than in years past, and the winners are:

Coach of the Year – Bill Snyder, Kansas State

Bust of the Year – a tie: Arkansas and Southern Cal   (pitiful, just pitiful) (honorable mention ((again)): Dolly Parton)

Overachiever of the Year – Texas A&M   Worst Home Uniforms: Oregon  (after a year off when Maryland took the prize)

·         Best Mascot – Mike the Tiger   (4 years running)

·          Most Difficult Team to Figure – Va Tech

·          Worst TV Play-By-Play Announcer – Pam Ward of ESPN

·          Best TV Play-By-Play Announcer – Brent Musburger

Now the AP must do his final war dance, so he sneaks out back and fires up the LSPM, which has just enough fuel for one last run. Smoke belches everywhere as we make ready all the paraphernalia needed for prognostication excellence. The eyes water as visions dance before us, a whirlwind of busted plays and turnovers dances in the air, clarity is difficult, but perseverance pays off and here is what we see………………

RUTGERS – 19

VA TECH – 17

VANDERBILT – 30

NC STATE – 21

USC – 44

GA TECH – 30

LSU – 41  (lots of turnovers in this game)

CLEMSON – 26

SOUTH CAROLINA – 16

MICHIGAN – 10

GEORGIA – 37 (the Dogs play as if they wish they were elsewhere or it would be worse)

NEBRASKA – 23

STANFORD – 28 (a good game)

WISCONSIN – 16

FLORIDA STATE – 34

NORTHERN ILLINOIS – 21

OREGON – 46  (a tennis match)

KANSAS STATE – 37

TEXAS A&M – 25 (a grudge match, and a good game)

OKLAHOMA – 19

FLORIDA – 17

LOUISVILLE – 6

ALABAMA – 31 (the gold helmets poop out in the 4th quarter and get run over)

NOTRE DAME – 20

And that will do it for 2012, folks.

The end of the year is upon us. Christmas is practically here. Take time to hug those you love, give thanks for all blessings, remember those less fortunate, hold dear the memories of those who have left us, and greet every day as a gift from the Lord to be used for good in some way. May we always remember that we are a fortunate people.

Until next year…………….get me outta’ here, Percy* !!!
