2020 College Football Predictions – Bowl Games

2020 College Football Season

“For when the One Great Scorer comes to mark against your name, He writes – not that you won or lost – but how you played the game”—Grantland Rice

“For 350 years we have been taught that reading maketh a full man, conference a ready man, and writing an exact man. Football’s place is to add a patina of character, a deference to the rules, and a respect for authority”—Red Smith

As another season draws to a close, we once again quote two of the greatest sportswriters of the past 125 years to help remind us why we love sporting competition in general and this game, specifically. There is just nothing like football in America—especially amateur football. The pageantry. The fierce loyalty. Those high school “Friday Nights” and college campus Saturday afternoons across the land burn longer lasting memories and lessons into our psyche than any professional sport ever will.

It has been a fun trip through our 30th edition, and with a 5-2 final week (one no-decision) your humble AP finished the year at 84-26 (76.4%). The seasons pass more swiftly now and seem to end more suddenly, leaving us to wait through winter, spring, and well into the dog days of summer, when fall practice finally arrives, and we can again crank up the excitement and chatter in anticipation of another season unfolding. May it ever be so. Now, off to the “shop out back” we go for one final run of the LSPM. We fire up everything in the joint, pulling out all the stops; even found a long lost Carnac the Magnificent Envelope in the bottom of the dust bin. Holding it up to our forehead here is what we see…

  • WISCONSIN – 22
  • WAKE FOREST – 17
  • AUBURN – 13
  • N CAROLINA – 42
  • TEXAS A&M – 27
  • KENTUCKY – 23
  • NC STATE – 17
  • OREGON – 19
  • IOWA STATE – 16
  • GEORGIA – 21
  • OKLAHOMA – 46
  • FLORIDA – 42
  • CLEMSON – 38
  • OHIO STATE – 26
  • ALABAMA – 48
  • NOTRE DAME – 21

And there you have it; another football season is in the books, and the Christmas Season is suddenly upon us. May we all take time to let those we love know it, take time to remember and support those who are not as fortunate as most of us, take time to remember those we have lost in 2020 to the sands of time and keep their families in our prayers, and finally, take time to be grateful. The Lord has been good to us, we live in the greatest nation even with its many faults, and we are indeed blessed beyond measure.

On a personal note, the AP has been contacted by the Smithsonian with a request that we bequeath the LSPM to them whenever/if ever the day comes to moth-ball it. We studied on it and have decided now is the time to go ahead and make it happen. Consequently, the order has already been placed to have the elegant machine crated and shipped to DC at the conclusion of this season. Folks, it has been a fun run, but all good things eventually come to an end. Many of you have tagged along on this lark for a couple of decades or more. Thanks for your humorous comments and support along the way as they have kept us moving.

And so, for the final time—get me outta’ here, Percy!*
